GOOD STUFF: ON OUR SLEEVES
Y’all this last year has been rough! As things finally seem to be going back to “normal”, I can look back and really appreciate some of the people and things that got me through that difficult stretch. Beading was one thing that gave me an “escape” and bought me a lot...
CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH JOANN
After the way 2020 went down, I was hesitant to make New Years resolutions for 2021. However, one thing I WON’T be doing this year is hoarding fabric I love and saving it for “one day”. Those days usually never come and life is too short to not enjoy beautiful things...
TOYIN OJIH ODUTOLA: A MATTER OF FACT
A few weeks ago the stars aligned: it was a sunny afternoon, my meetings for the day wrapped up early and I was in San Francisco (SOMA) with a few hours to spare and I was only two blocks away from the Museum of the African Diaspora.
It was the perfect occasion to finally check out an exhibit I’ve been wanting to see for months: A Matter of Fact by Toyin Ojih Odutola which was on display October 26, 2017 – April 2, 2017.
ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE: BLACK PANTHERS AT 50
As soon as I heard that the Oakland Museum of California was honoring the 50th anniversary of the Black Panther Party, I knew that I had to see it. The exhibition, All Power to the People: Black Panthers at 50, was on display from October 2016 through February 2017.
I toured the exhibition a few weeks ago and was inspired by the Black Panther Party’s strength, vulnerability, passion and pride.

Two of the things I love most about my job is that I have the opportunity to work in different industries and constantly learning new things. Lately, I’ve been working a project in the fashion industry and I’ve been having a great time while doing so.
Have you ever seen one of those impossibly chic and deceptively simple fashion sketches?

SPOTLIGHT: BRITTANY BAUM OF ZOLA ARTS FACTORY
She draws the kind of girls that LL Cool J rapped about and Jodeci sang about in the 90’s - the kind of women that are brashly beautiful, concrete roses. She’s Brittany Baum of Zola Arts Factory. I have the pleasure of speaking with Brittany from her current residence...

Adrienne "Addie" Randle is known online not only for her natural hair, but also for her natural talent as an artist. Her colorful artwork featuring Black women frosted with 'fros has garnered thousands of "likes", "thumbs ups", and adoring comments across various...
SPOTLIGHT: DUST || ONYX TAROT DECK BY COURTNEY ALEXANDER
Have you ever had a moment while you are scrolling through your social media feed when you see something that makes you stop in awe? That's how I felt when I saw a gorgeous collage portrait of a woman on Instagram. She had a gold infinity sign around her eyes,...
MCA CHICAGO: KERRY JAMES MARSHALL
Spontaneous Saturday afternoons are the best, aren't they? During the summer I visited a friend (and fellow art lover) in Chicago and on a whim we decided to go to the Museum of Contemporary Art. We could not have picked a better time to visit! We had the chance to...
