This was a tough week for me. The election was disappointing to say the least. It looks like we are in for a rough four years.
Fortunately, despite that situation, there is still some “good stuff” that happened this week.
The new A Tribe Called Quest album dropped today, and it’s on constant repeat in my studio. New music with nostalgic 90’s vibes – I’m feeling it. Good music always make bad situations a little bit better. It’s too early to pick a favorite track, but Dis Generation is definitely one of the front runners in my opinion.
I am also excited about seeing A Tribe Called Quest on SNL tomorrow night, Dave Chappelle is hosting so it should be good.
Last weekend I attended a book signing for Andrea Pippins’ new book Becoming Me at Concept Forty Seven in Oakland. If I had to describe Becoming Me I would say it’s a perfect mashup of a journal + a coloring book + motivational reading + a life planner. It’s targeted toward pre-teen and teenage girls, but the activities are fun for adults too – especially if you sip a glass of wine while working on it. Just saying.
While I was at Concept Forty Seven, I also discovered the artwork of Rosesharon Oates. She’s a wood burner and painter. The texture of her work is amazing. I don’t have the wall space for any new art at the moment, but I did pick up a few greeting cards with prints of her work.
I also received my gorgeous Prints for Haiti postcards in the mail this week. 100% of the proceeds are donated to Hurricane Matthew relief in Haiti. The project was coordinated be Paola Mathe of Fanm Djanm.
Today is also Veteran’s Day, my heartfelt thanks go the men and women who defend our country. It is my sincere hope that politics of our nation will evolve to reflect the principles and values that we send brave troops to defend in other countries around the globe.
Those are a few quick highlights from my week! What’s good with you?
