I checked out Miles Ahead this week. It’s a biographical film about the intriguing and eclectic jazz musician Miles Davis. I am a huge fan of Don Cheadle and he not only played Miles Davis in the film, he also directed and co-produced it. I had high expectations and Miles Ahead lived up to them.
I tweeted about the film after I saw it, and had a bit of a “fangirl” moment when Don Cheadle retweeted me *giggle*.
Watching the Met Gala arrivals was another highlight for me this week. The Met Gala (also known as the Met Ball) is an annual fundraising event that benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.
The Gala marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. The theme of the exhibit serves as the Gala’s theme and sets the tone for the dress code. The 2016 theme is Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology.
There were silver dresses…lots and lots of silver dresses. While the color does have a clear connection to technology, it was a bit of a “safe” option for the Met Gala. One dress that stood out in the sea of silver was the shimmering Marchesa dress worn by Poppy Delevingne. I love the movement of the dress and Poppy’s “more is more” approach to accessorizing.
At the other end of the metallic color spectrum, Zendaya looked stunning in a gold dress designed by Michael Kors. Honoring the event’s futuristic theme she flaunted a surprisingly flattering bowl cut. I wonder if that hair style will catch on…
Green is my favorite color so I was definitely partial to the gorgeous gown that Lupita Nyong’o wore. While she made a strong fashion statement in seafoam green, it was her hair style that stole the show.
When Vogue made a faaaaar reach to cite Audrey Hepburn as the inspiration for Lupita’s haistyle, she quickly took to social media to set the record straight and credit “the sculptural hairdos from all around the continent [of Africa]” as the inspiration for her hairstyle. I love her for doing that!
Solange could not be ignored in her standout gown by David Port. Hate it or love it; you have to admire her boldness…and her humor as she posted:
“Back at it again with the yellowwww fan lol,” on her Instagram account.
Also, gotta give Solange extra points for rocking what looked to be a super comfy sweat suit at a Met Gala after party. It looks like one of those super soft egg crate foam mattress toppers. I mean that in a good way…really, I do.
Lots of “good stuff” for me this week – what’s good with you?
