This week Thursday will mark the 20th anniversary of Notorious B.I.G.’s death. Twenty years ago I was in Milwaukee in my childhood bedroom – it was just after Sunday School and I was hanging up my church clothes – when I heard the news on the radio. He’d been shot in L.A.
The DJ gave “up to the minute” details (this was before the internet age) and took live calls on the air from people phoning in to share stories about how much Biggie’s music meant to them.
As I listened to all the callers, I remember thinking that it was both eerie and comforting that his most recent album was titled Ready to Die. At that moment, it also struck me that life is short and uncertain – might as well think positive, live well and enjoy it to the fullest.
“Uh, damn right I like the life I live
‘Cause I went from negative to positive
And it’s all good”
-Notorious B.I.G.
I am starting this week with lots of foreseeable obstacles in my path, but I am committed to staying positive (no matter what). What’s your plan for the week?
